So I don’t know what to do about my name… to change it or not? I am really attached to ‘Petruzzi’ I think its great personally and a little different. And although I love Justin and his family… the name just doesn’t have the same ring to it. And its my name… this is a tough call and I am not sure what I am going to do about it. I don’t like hyphenating it… since it gets too long and I have to sign notes all day at work. My mom thinks I should take my old last name as my middle name, and drop my middle name. This is tricky.

How about Justin takes your name? Or you could just come up with a new name altogether and then you both change your name to that.

We actually thought of both of those things, but a new name is proving to be difficult to think up… any ideas?

Taking your husband’s name is so last century, isn’t it?

I kept my name but I did it because I just did not see any reason to change it. My name is my name. The kids will have my husband’s last name because I don’t want to hyphenate our names together; it seems silly. I do not think that keeping your name is disrespectful to Justin’s family. It needs to be your choice and it has to do with how you feel. When I announced that I was keeping my name, my biggest supporter was my mother-in-law.

It’s funny, I think pretty much everyone in both families that we talk to is completely ambivalent about it. I really like her last name, her whole name, and her family history, and I know that in comparison, Miller is a rather ordinary name. I could see it going either way, though. Ultimately it’s entirely her decision, as far as I’m concerned.

Justin, you sound like Seth. When I told Seth that I planned to keep my name, he asked if it was okay if he kept his.
